Social Security Disability

Get the benefits you need.

If you suffer from a physical or mental condition that prevents you from working, you may be eligible for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits. Unfortunately, proving a qualifying medical condition and obtaining approval for financial assistance can be a lengthy and challenging process. Having a skilled lawyer on your side can significantly improve your chance of success. At the law office of Paula M. Tomko, Attorney at Law, we have been helping clients in the Denver Metro and Front Range area obtain SSD benefits since 1984. Using our detailed knowledge of the SSD process and our extensive experience, we will put forth every effort to help you get the benefits you need.

Two types of SSD benefits available:

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

The Social Security Administration grants these benefits to individuals who have paid into the Social Security system for a certain number of years. Approval for these payments are dependent upon how many quarters you have worked in the 10 years before the onset of your disability.

These disability benefits are designed for people with limited financial resources. SSI is a welfare-based program that does not have any work history requirements.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

  • Chronic back problems

  • Degenerative joint disease

  • Diabetes

  • Schizophrenia

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Depression

Who is eligible to apply? Covered conditions include:

  • Cancer

  • Lupus

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Loss of vision

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Traumatic brain injury

In many instances, a disabled person suffers from more than one qualifying condition. For example, someone unable to work because of diabetes may develop depression. It is important that you seek regular medical treatment for your illness or injury. Your medical records play a large role in the SSD application process and go a long way toward proving your need for benefits. Because we are a local law firm, we know the medical providers in the area. We have information about health care facilities in the community that offer reduced rates.
